An Ode to my Red Lipstick

To be or not to be,
that is not up to me.

I coat my lips with you, red,
as I walk into the room
painted and dented.

You get the attention,
I, the judgment.

Feminine, red.

Harlot, red.

Scarlet ‘A’ painted
across my face,
bleeding down to my lips.

Until the voices decide for me
what they could never
decide for themselves.

To be or not to be,
to wear or un-wear,
to let or not let,
that is not up to me.
