Paper plane

She said, ‘Let it go’,
and I did.

I let go of you
the way a perfectly
crafted paper plane
takes a flight in a
cloud of dust,
as I slowly lose
the sight of you.

I let go of you
the way a perfectly
crafted paper plane
drifts off by a gentle breeze
evoked from my thumping heart
that skipped a beat
as I lost sight of you.

I let go of you
the way a perfectly
crafted paper plane
quivers in the space between us
like my mouth does in
the space between yours.

I still let go of you
when that perfectly
crafted paper plane
crashes and loses its neck
scattering parts of it
everywhere and nowhere.

I don’t pick it up again,
straighten its neck
caress its feathers
and I let it go.

Recently, I caught sight of someone from the past after about five years which stirred a lot in my mind while I felt absolutely nothing. Since that day I had been trying to find perfect metaphors to describe how I felt, even though I had no idea how I felt. Yesterday I caught an eye of a paper plane and it all fell right in place and I wrote a poem about letting go of someone no matter how hard you think it might be. This poem is about reaching that stage with someone that you don’t love them anymore, and you don’t even hate them anymore and you simply become complete strangers.

If you like this poem, please like, share, comment and follow my blog for more poetry. I also appreciate any kind of feedback in the comment section so just tell me whatever this made you think and I will always appreciate it.
